Assembly

Inokom Corporation Sdn. Bhd.

Sime Darby Motors’ first assembly plant was the Associated Motors Industries (AMI) plant in Selangor, Malaysia that assembled BMW and Land Rover vehicles in 1982.

In 2004, Sime Darby Motors acquired Inokom assembly plant in Kedah, Malaysia which assembles various Hyundai passenger and commercial vehicles. In 2008, the assembly operations for BMW and Land Rover were then relocated to Inokom. However, the assembly of Land Rover was ceased in 2016. Later in 2011, MINI and Mazda brands were incorporated. Ten years later, Inokom was appointed to assemble Kia vehicles which successfully launched for mass production in 2023. In 2022, Sime Darby Motors’ vehicle production and assembly facility in Inokom became the first assembly facility for Porsche outside of Europe that assembles Porsche Cayenne model for the domestic market.
 
The following year in 2023, Inokom entered a partnership with Chery for the local assembly of Chery models in Malaysia and currently assembles the Chery Omoda 5 and Tiggo SUVs.

Modular Operation

In 2018, Sime Darby Motors launched Sime Darby Auto Engineering (SDAE), the engine assembly facility. The engine assembly facility supports BMW Group Malaysia’s growing demand for locally assembled vehicles with the newest capabilities in engine assembly technology. Presently, SDAE not only operates for BMW but also assembles modules for Hyundai, Porsche, Kia, Mazda and Stellantis.

In 2022, Sime Darby Motors expanded its modular operations, namely Sime Darby Auto Module, Sime Darby Auto Interior and Lead Engineering. These modular assembly plants are currently supplying automotive modules for Hyundai and Chery.
