Sime Darby Motors Hong Kong and Macau Unveiled the First Japanese Electric Truck – Mitsubishi FUSO eCanter in Hong Kong

Marking the resounding introduction of the first Japanese electric light-duty truck in Hong Kong, the Mitsubishi FUSO eCanter launch event was successfully held earlier this year. With Sime Darby Motors Group (Hong Kong and Macau)'s longstanding philosophy of emission reduction and a commitment to building an energy-efficient product portfolio, Universal Cars Limited introduced Hong Kong's first Japanese electric light-duty truck - FUSO eCanter - into the market.

Mr. Kyu-Sang Cho, Vice President of Daimler Commercial Vehicles SEA Pte Ltd., stated in his speech, "This marks a significant milestone as the first overseas release of the eCanter in the Asian market outside of Japan, demonstrating our strong commitment to the electric truck market in Hong Kong. EVs, such as the eCanter, offer numerous environmental benefits.  EVs like the eCanter provide environmental advantages by reducing CO2 emissions, helping us advance towards a more sustainable transportation solution." Mr. Cho also expressed his expectations for the popularisation of electric vehicles in Hong Kong and the vision of eCanter driving local and global development in the sustainable transportation sector. He also commended Universal Cars Limited for their extensive preparations in promoting eCanter in Hong Kong.

Mr. Will Fung, Director of Commercial Vehicle, Sime Darby Motors Hong Kong Ltd, highlighted the growing significance of electric commercial vehicles in his speech. He specifically underscored how the new eCanter has inherited the globally renowned reputation of its predecessor. Tested for more than 1 million kilometers before its release and with advanced technologies and the longest original factory warranty in Hong Kong, it is a safe and reliable choice for electric trucks. As a distributor, Universal Cars Limited also sent colleagues to FUSO’s Japan headquarters to deepen their knowledge of eCanter, installed charging facilities and set up works bays specialised for electric trucks at the FUSO center to ensure professional services to all customers.

As the first Japanese electric light-duty truck in Hong Kong, the eCanter offers great flexibility in terms of its wheelbase, payload capacity, and the types of bodies that can be installed. Universal Cars Limited offers a total of 7 models with 3 battery capacities and 6 wheelbase options, catering to diverse body requirements.

The eCanter can be equipped with an electric Power Take-off Unit (ePTO) that is compatible with the existing diesel truck body equipment such as tipper bodies, refuse collection bodies, or even refrigerated bodies. The eCanter showcases a range of innovative technologies, including regenerative braking, and is additionally equipped with the exclusive FUSO telematics solution, "Truckonnect®". The cutting-edge system enables users to seamlessly access crucial vehicle information via the internet, such as remaining battery capacity, vehicle status, and range. By enabling quick responses to different business situations, Truckonnect® enhances operational efficiency.

Attendees witnessed the new generation eCanter and experienced its upgraded cockpit with advanced space and comfortability at the exhibition area. Booths set up by three invited charging service providers enabled attendees to gain more information on charging solutions and services.
