Chery Automobile Partners with Sime Darby for Local Assembly in Malaysia
Serdang, 3 May 2023 – Chery Automobile Co., Ltd (“Chery Automobile”) and Sime Darby Berhad today jointly announced that they will enter into a partnership for Chery vehicles to be assembled in Malaysia.
The local assembly of Chery vehicles in collaboration with Sime Darby is expected to begin in the third quarter of 2023 at Sime Darby’s motor vehicle production and assembly facility, Inokom, in Kulim, Kedah.
Chery Corporate Malaysia Country Director Mr Leo Chen said the partnership with Sime Darby is aimed at strengthening its presence in emerging markets within Southeast Asia that has seen encouraging growth.
“It is a very exciting and thrilling partnership. It creates valuable experience in the automotive sector across the value chain, which would make this a great partnership to grow together,” said Mr Chen.
Sime Darby’s assembly plant in Kulim will be expanded to cater for Chery’s local assembly in Malaysia.

With its recent fresh entry strategies to Malaysia, Chery has previewed the Omoda 5 and Tiggo SUVs in October 2022 for the Malaysian media and public with encouraging feedback. Currently, it has 30 dealerships under renovation.
Chery Corporate Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. (“CCMSB”), a local subsidiary fully-owned by Wuhu Purui Automobile Investment Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of Chery Automobile, will be the Approved Permit (“AP”) Franchise Holder to undertake the local assembly of Chery vehicles in Malaysia for the domestic and export market.
