BMW Electrifies Singapore and Launches BMW iPerformance Vehicles
Lower emissions. Silent Driving. Tremendous torque. More driving pleasure.
SINGAPORE, 19 September, 2017 - BMW Asia and Performance Motors today jointly launched a wide range of new BMW iPerformance plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) in Singapore: the new BMW 225xe Active Tourer, BMW 330e Sedan, BMW 530e, the BMW 740Le xDrive and BMW X5 xDrive40e.

In addition, the new BMW i3 (94 Ah), the recent recipient of the World Urban Car Award 2017 at the New York International Auto Show, is also now available in Singapore.

The BMW iPerformance Automobiles represent the most rigorous implementation yet of Efficient Dynamics in vehicles from the BMW brand. All iPerformance models allow locally emission-free driving without compromising on the driving pleasure one would expect from a BMW. They combine an electric driving experience and high operating range with functional excellence and everyday practicality.

“BMW believes sustainable mobility is the future of mobility, and in the first six months of the year, a total of 42,573 BMW i, BMW iPerformance and MINI Electric vehicles were delivered to customers worldwide, an increase of 79.8% on the same period last year,” said Mr. Paul de Courtois, Managing Director of BMW Group Asia. “Three years ago we introduced the BMW i3 and i8 to the Singapore market, and now it’s time to take the next step and bring you our full range of BMW iPerformance vehicles so you can enjoy a dynamic driving experience combined with the possibility of electric driving with zero local emissions.”

Mr. Horst Herdtle, Managing Director of Performance Motors Limited said, “BMW has reached a milestone today in Singapore by proudly offering our customers seven BMW i and BMW iPerformance models with electrified drivetrains. This is the largest range of EVs and PHEVs offered by any automotive company in Singapore and we look forward to providing our customers the opportunity to experience entirely new dimension of pure driving pleasure with the power of electro-mobility.”

The best of two worlds: BMW eDrive and BMW TwinPower Turbo technology.

The new iPerformance model designation is given to all BMW plug-in hybrids, and provides a clear message of technology transfer from BMW i to the core BMW brand.

By combining an electric motor that delivers maximum torque from zero rpm with a highly efficient and sporty engine, BMW iPerformance cars achieve excellent fuel efficiency yet superb dynamic performance. The iPerformance models also benefit from the transfer of technical expertise regarding electric motors, battery cells, and electronic control systems.

Visually, the iPerformance range is differentiated with BMW i-style blue elements in the kidney grille and wheel hubs, a BMW i logo on the front side panel, and an eDrive logo on the C-pillar.

Packaged together with the BMW i 360° ELECTRIC products and services, the BMW i and iPerformance models offer a complete peace of mind. Ranging from solutions for home and public charging via our partner, Greenlots, to highly connected systems under BMW ConnectedDrive, BMW i 360° ELECTRIC takes care of customer needs to ensure a smooth and enjoyable e-mobility experience.

The new BMW 225xe iPerformance

The BMW 225xe – a BMW 2 Series Active Tourer variant with eDrive – delivers a combination of sporting ability, economy and everyday practicality unique in its segment. With its plug-in hybrid drive system, the BMW 225xe combines BMW EfficientDynamics with comfort, driving pleasure and all-wheel drive, and brings versatility and generous levels of space together in a compact vehicle. It is therefore perfectly suited for use in urban areas and for family leisure activities. The BMW 225xe uses its combination of BMW eDrive and a 1.5-litre three-cylinder BMW TwinPower Turbo engine to offer both an electric driving experience and unrestricted mobility. Its combined fuel consumption of 2.1–2.0 l/100 km (CO2 emissions are just 49–46 g/km ) in the NEDC cycle sets the benchmark in its class.

The new BMW 330e iPerformance

The BMW 330e brings together high-quality dynamics and extremely low fuel consumption. The plug-in hybrid drive system delivers familiar BMW driving dynamics by pairing a cutting-edge electric motor producing 88 hp and a peak torque of 250 Nm with a four-cylinder combustion engine, which develops 184 hp and 290 Nm of torque. Combined average fuel consumption in the NEDC cycle is 2.1–1.9 l/100 km (CO2 emissions are 49–44 g/km ). With a system output of 252 hp and peak torque of 420 Nm, the BMW 330e accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds on the way to a top speed of 225 km/h. The electric motor and combustion engine send their power to the sedan’s rear wheels via a standard-fitted eight-speed Steptronic transmission. The arrangement of the electric motor in front of the transmission allows the transmission ratios to be used in all-electric mode as well. This means a torque converter can be omitted, which partially cancels out the extra weight of the additional drive unit.

The new BMW 530e iPerformance

The BMW 530e iPerformance is a sporty sedan with fuel consumption of 1.9 l/100 km (CO2 emissions of just 44 g/km ) under NEDC cycle. The BMW 530e iPerformance is the most innovative model in its class and offers the full wealth of BMW 5 Series driver assistance systems – in all modes, including eDrive. These systems are complemented by all the available comfort-enhancing features and excellent long-distance driving credentials, including a boot that can hold ample luggage for trips away. As for its power source, trailblazing BMW eDrive technology teams up with a BMW TwinPower Turbo petrol engine to create an exceptionally economical and powerful plug-in hybrid drive system that fits perfectly with the dynamic, smooth and efficient character profile of the new BMW 5 Series.

The new BMW 740Le xDrive iPerformance

The plug-in hybrid variant of the new BMW 7 Series allows top-level driving pleasure, long-distance comfort and luxury to be experienced in combination with all-electric, locally emission-free mobility as well. Intelligent energy management optimises the interplay of the combustion engine and electric motor. The electric boost function provides a noticeable increase in dynamic vigour – expressed most prominently by the powertrain’s instantaneous responses – and combines with enhanced efficiency courtesy of the electric assist function and the opportunity to drive through town and cross-country on electric power only to create a unique symbiosis of driving pleasure and sustainability. The maximum electric range, as per the EU test cycle for plug-in hybrid vehicles, is 41 – 45 kilometres for the BMW 740Le xDrive iPerformance. Petrol consumption combined is 2.5 – 2.1 l/100 km (CO2 emissions are 56 –49 g/km ), and intelligent all-wheel drive distributes the combined power of the combustion engine and electric motor permanently and as required between the front and rear wheels.

The new BMW X5 xDrive40e iPerformance

The BMW X5 xDrive40e is the first Sports Activity Vehicle plug-in hybrid production car from the BMW core brand. Permanent all-wheel drive and the BMW EfficientDynamics eDrive technology endow the BMW X5 xDrive40e with sensational sportiness and supreme poise on the one hand and outstanding efficiency on the other. With a total system output of 313 hp generated by a four-cylinder petrol engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology and a synchronous electric motor, the BMW X5 xDrive40e achieves a combined fuel consumption of 3.4 – 3.3 l/100 km (CO2 emissions are 78 – 77 g/km ). The use of BMW eDrive technology for exceptionally efficient performance as well as all-electric mobility with zero tailpipe emissions as and when required ushers in a whole new form of commanding driving experience in a sports activity vehicle.

The new BMW i3 (94 Ah)

The BMW i3 (94 Ah) has a capacity of 33 kilowatt hours (kWh) thanks to the higher storage density of the lithium ion cells. The battery dimensions remain unchanged with over 50 per cent range increase in the standard NEDC cycle which equals 300 kilometres instead of 190 kilometres. Even in everyday use, in bad weather conditions and with the air conditioning or heating turned on, 200 kilometres of range can be achieved on one full battery charge. The driving performance figures of the 170 hp hybrid synchronous electric motor remain virtually unchanged. The motor propels the BMW i3 from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds. This makes the BMW i3 both the sportiest and most efficient electric vehicle in its segment with an electricity consumption of 12.6 kWh/100 km (NEDC). In addition, the model variant with Range Extender will still be available for the new battery versions. The 2-cylinder petrol engine keeps the charge level of the battery constant while driving provides an additional range of 150 kilometres (BMW i3 (94 Ah)/BMW i3 (60 Ah): combined fuel consumption 0.6./0.6l/100 km; combined electricity consumption: 11.3/13.5 kWh/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 12/13 g/km)1. This broadens the model range of the best-selling premium electric vehicle in its segment worldwide to four versions.
