Competitive Pricing, Wider Sales And Service Coverage Key To Land Rover's Rennaisance In Malaysia

PETALING JAYA, 27 November 2008 - Sime Darby Auto Connexion Sdn Bhd (Auto ConneXion), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sime Darby Motor Division that now manages the Ford, Land Rover and Alfa Romeo brands, believes that its success in securing competitive pricing for the latest range of Land Rover luxury sport utility vehicles (SUVs) and ability to provide an unprecedented level of nationwide sales and service coverage would spark the iconic marque’s renaissance in Malaysia.

To date, 25 confirmed bookings have already been received following Auto ConneXion’s recent public test drive event for the widely acclaimed and much-awaited Freelander 2 and the latest versions of the Discovery 3, Range Rover Sport and Range Rover.

The Freelander 2 TD4 equipped with a 160 bhp 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission is priced at RM271,388 while the multiple-award winning Discovery 3 TDV6 with a 189 bhp 2.7-litre turbo-diesel powerplant is priced at RM382,388.

Auto ConneXion is offering the powerful and sporty Range Rover Sport in two variants. The 2.7-litre V6 turbo-diesel variant is priced from RM522,388 while the more powerful variant equipped with a naturally aspirated 4.4-litre V8 petrol engine costs RM565,888.

The flagship Range Rover equipped with a 3.6-litre TDV8 diesel engine is available from RM623,888. All prices are on the road, excluding insurance.

The arrival of the new models in addition to the Defender 110 PUMA pick-up (RM146,888) and crew cab (RM178,888) means that Auto ConneXion now offers a complete range of the latest Land Rover products in the Malaysian market.

Auto ConneXion’s strategy is to ensure that in the Klang Valley, Land Rover continues to provide the individual brand experience through its own exclusive 3S (sales, service and spares) facility at Petaling Jaya, which will be extensively upgraded by January 2009.

Plans are in place to open a strategically located showroom in downtown Kuala Lumpur to further enhance the Land Rover brand’s premium positioning.

Outside the Klang Valley, the company will leverage on its extensive network of eight Auto ConneXion branches and dealerships, previously representing only Ford, to provide wider sales and aftersales coverage to Land Rover owners and prospects.

The good news for Land Rover enthusiasts is that Auto ConneXion branches in Butterworth, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu have been appointed to retail and service the brand with more to come. These branches are currently in the midst of being equipped with the relevant infrastructure to appropriately offer the Land Rover experience to customers.

Lawrence Lee, Executive Vice President, Sime Darby Motors Division said multi-franchising is a global trend that benefits both automotive companies like Auto ConneXion and customers.

“It is about expanding our market reach and giving real value to customers. By rationalising our back-end operations while maintaining the distinctive brand identities on the retail front, we are able to achieve cost effectiveness and better serve our customers, particularly those outside the Klang Valley,” he added.
