KOTA KINABALU, 5 January 2009 - Auto Bavaria, a fully-owned subsidiary of the Sime Darby Group continued to set the standard for automotive ownership with the official launch of a brand new, state-of-the-art BMW dealership in Kota Kinabalu.

The official opening was an exclusive event held at the brand new Auto Bavaria showroom and was graced by Tuan Yang Terutama (TYT) Yang-Dipertua Negeri Sabah, Tun Datuk Sri Panglima Haji Ahmadshah bin Abdullah, local ministers and VIP’s, as well as existing BMW owners.

The evening started off with the arrival of the Guest of Honour, TYT Yang-Dipertua Negeri Sabah. After a short introduction, Mr Geoffrey Briscoe, Managing Director of BMW Group Malaysia took to the stage to deliver his speech in which he expressed a sense of fulfilment in seeing BMW now officially available in Kota Kinabalu.

Mathias Heimann, Managing Director of Auto Bavaria was also at hand to welcome the guests and he underlined Auto Bavaria’s role as the official BMW dealer in Kota Kinabalu. “The opening of this new Auto Bavaria branch will provide car enthusiasts in Sabah with a comprehensive BMW experience by bringing in the complete range of award-winning BMW vehicles and by providing customers with premium levels of service and support. We see a market with strong growth potential here in Sabah and we are committed to working hand in hand with BMW Group Malaysia to strengthen BMW’s position in East Malaysia.” Heimann commented.

The launch ceremony saw TYT Yang-Dipertua Negeri Sabah performing the ribbon-cutting ceremony to much fanfare. Mr. Heimann also presented the Guest of Honour with a miniature of one of BMW’s flagship models, the X5 as a token of appreciation. After the auspicious launch of Auto Bavaria Kota Kinabalu, all participants were treated to a sumptuous dinner, whilst being serenaded with a live jazz band.

Auto Bavaria Kota Kinabalu occupies a total built-up area of 1,619 sq m and is located along the prime thoroughfare of Jalan Lintas which links the south and north of Kota Kinabalu.
